Description

“Barcelona,” is all about capturing the true, unfiltered spirit of the city. As part of my Essence in Simplicity series, I wanted to strip away the geographical noise and distill the city’s lively essence into pure, evocative color and form.

I used deep, grounding blues to represent the calm yet mysterious waters of the Mediterranean, reminiscent of those quiet, early mornings by the sea. In stark contrast, the reds are bold and fiery—capturing the vibrant nights, the raw passion of flamenco, and the lively streets that never seem to sleep. Sweeping through the canvas are warm oranges, which always remind me of the golden sunlight hitting Gaudí’s masterworks, the bustling energy of the local markets, and the genuine warmth of the people.

When you stand in front of this canvas, my hope is that you feel the distinct pulse of Barcelona—the beautiful mix of tranquility and passion, tradition and modernity. It is as if the city’s heartbeat is right here on the surface, inviting you to feel its energy and soul through these simplified, yet deeply expressive, colors and shapes.
